Will 2021 look any better than 2020?

As 2020 comes to an end, it will go down in history as a very hard year. The coronavirus pandemic has caused over 19 million infections and 335,000 deaths in the United States.

Will 2021 look any better than 2020? The short answer is no. Covid-19 infections have gotten to a point where it will take months to reduce daily infections. Vaccinations have begun, but it will take a while before enough people are vaccinated and the spread is controlled.

Lockdowns and tight restrictions caused many workers to lose their jobs and are struggling to provide for themselves and their families. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Many vaccinations are protecting COVID-19 and are being administered very quickly. Although 2021 may seem like a better year than 2020, these are some things to expect.

1.Kids May Start School Virtually

School districts want to take the time to quarantine their students after winter break. Countless families are traveling to different households, raising the chance of coronavirus infections. Many schools are starting hybrid/in-person learning after a week of online learning.

2.Vaccinations

Currently, vaccinations are being administered to people in the first group, health care workers and social care workers. This group is expected to be vaccinated by mid-January. The second group with high-risk people and seniors 65+ will be vaccinated by mid-May. The remainder of the population will be vaccinated by August.

3.Stimulus Checks

Congress has just passed a relief package that sends out stimulus checks to many Americans in need of assistance. Although the amount in stimulus checks is unclear, the government plans to start sending checks by the last week of 2020. There might be another round of stimulus checks once Joe Biden takes office on January 20. He has plans to get America back to normal and put covid behind us.

4.“A Normal Summer”

With most of the population vaccinated by the summer months, there might be a possibility that the summer of 2021 looks like any normal summer. People might be able to go on vacations, meet with friends, and attend sporting events. But don’t keep hopes up too high, many scientists have found new strains of coronavirus. Vaccinations might not protect people against them.

5.Many Restrictions and Limited Gatherings (First Part of the Year)

Coronavirus cases are skyrocketing, and they are not showing any signs of slowing down. People will travel during this holiday season causing more people to test positive in the days after major travel traffic. Beginning the year, there might be many more restrictions because of rapidly rising cases. Gatherings will be prohibited as these are super-spreading events. Restrictions might be relaxed in late-February, depending on your area.

6.New President

Joe Biden has been elected the 46th president of the United States. He is expected to take office on January 20, 2021. Biden has an extensive plan to get America up and running in the first 100 days of his presidency. Some of them include preparing another stimulus package, setting restrictions to slow the spread of covid, and distributing the vaccine to all people in America.

There are many suggestions that things may not get back to normal till August of 2021. But, find ways to keep yourself entertained and healthy while you stay at home. Try not to travel and get your coronavirus vaccine when you can. Most importantly, keep your mental and physical health in good shape as we endure these hard times.
